Species:          nitidus (Casier 1966)

Podocephalus nitidus is a smaller fish than P.curryi and is represented by two specimens in the collection of the Natural History Museum, London. I’ve not heard of any other specimens of this species being found.

Distinguishing Characteristics:
  • No evidence of sclerotic ossicle in orbit (1)
  • Relatively flat, sloping cranium (2)
  • Cranium narrows sharply above orbits (3)
