Paraberyx bowerbanki is a small Berycoid fish which is only represented by 3-4 specimens with varying levels of quality of preservation. The holotype is the best preserved and does show the top of the cranium which helps allocate this small fish to the Berycoid family. 

Distinguishing Characteristics:
  • Flat top of skull with a gentle sloping angle to the front of the mouth (1)
  • Wide gape with relatively large dentary bones in the lower jaw (2)
