Species:          toliapicus (Agassiz 1844)

Acipenser toliapicus is the only member of the Acipenseriformes order described from the London Clay and only known from partial specimens of either fins, dermal scutes or skull ossifications. 

Distinguishing Characteristics:
  • Bony dermal scutes show heavy pitting ornamentation (1)
  • Dorsal scutes (running along the dorsal side of the body) have a central ridge line (2)
  • Fin preservation has very characteristic S-shape sections (3)
